Dear Colleagues:
I would like to invite members of the Brock University community to attend Wednesday’s Town Hall meeting to cover the topics of the new Strategic Plan and the budgetary implications emerging from the Ontario Government’s Jan. 17 announcement. The meeting is scheduled for:
Wednesday, Feb. 13
Time: 8:30 to 10 a.m.
Location: Thistle 325
NOTE: A second Town Hall was initially scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12 but was cancelled due to inclement weather.
On January 21, I wrote you with an initial overview regarding the Ontario Government’s announcement on tuition, OSAP and student organization funding. We acknowledged and recognized that we are a “people” organization that must put our students, faculty and staff at the centre as we endeavor to work through the new operating budgetary realities.
I also indicated that we would bring forward discussion items to the University community, including Senate and the Board, to ensure broad engagement and consultation as we will have to look at revenue growth and/or cost-saving initiatives to address the more than $15.4-million drop in revenues here at Brock associated with the 10 per cent tuition reduction announced by the Government.
It is also important to appreciate that universities and colleges across Ontario are all facing these multi-year budget concerns and, therefore, the speed and effectiveness of our actions must be at the forefront of our discussions.
I look forward to your participation in one of the two Town Hall meetings being held next week. This is your opportunity to directly engage and contribute to our efforts in building an outstanding university that meets the academic and career needs of our students; encourages community and economic growth of the Niagara region; and supports our mission and values that put our people at the centre of our decision-making activities.
Again, I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, Feb. 12 or Wednesday, Feb. 13. For those unable to attend, the Town Halls will be recorded and available on The Brock News following the events.
Sincerely,
Gervan Fearon
President and Vice-Chancellor, Brock University
