Women’s self-defence course begins this month

Brock female students, staff and faculty are invited to participate in an upcoming eight-week self-defence course offered through Recreation Services.

The RAD (Rape Aggression Defence) course will take place every Thursday afternoon from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Walker Sports Complex fitness studio from Thursday, Jan. 24 until Thursday, Mar. 28, with the exception of Reading Week. The cost is $25. A free trial class will be offered Thursday, Jan. 17 from 3 to 4 p.m., also in the fitness studio.

Through a combination of seminar-style instruction and simulation where both instructors and participants are equipped with fully padded suits, course participants will learn techniques and strategies they can use in an assault situation, such as strikes, kicks, finger rolls and how to get out of bear hugs.

Registration is available online through the Recreation Services website. Space is limited to 10 to 14 people. Those interested in learning more can email rad@brocku.ca
