Donors needed for on-campus blood drive

While demand for life-saving blood donations is greater during and after the holiday season, the number of donors often decreases due to the hustle and bustle the time of year brings.

With the new year underway and donations needed to help fulfil transfusion needs, Canadian Blood Services is hosting a blood drive on campus Friday, Jan. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Ian Beddis Gymnasium.

Giving blood can help clinics and hospitals replenish the supply needed to treat patients undergoing surgery, victims of serious injuries such as car crashes or natural disasters, as well as patients with bleeding disorders such as hemophilia or illnesses such as anemia, kidney disease or cancer.

To donate blood, book an appointment online with blood.ca. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Those unable to attend the blood donor clinic this month can register for an on-campus clinic planned for Friday, March 22.

For more information on the need for blood, donor eligibility and the donation process, visit the Canadian Blood Services website.
