It’s not every day students are given the chance to meet with a high-ranking professional in their field.
However, thanks to an upcoming initiative from Brock’s Co-op, Career and Experiential Education (CCEE) team, two worthy students will be given the chance to sit down for a sought-after meeting with a professional from an organization of their choice anywhere in Ontario.
The Lunch with a Leader contest asks students to complete an online application about why they should be selected and to submit a video interview about their choice of organization and the overall benefits of the experience. Once the answers have been paired with a resumé and unofficial grade record, a judging committee will decide the two winners based on academic performance, career aspirations and overall presentation
Cara Krezek, Director of CCEE, says the competition showcases the ability of Brock’s CCEE team to connect students with valuable resources and contacts as they start their careers while also giving employer partners a glimpse into Brock’s deep pool of talented students.
“It’s a chance for students to network and get in front of someone they may not have been able to meet without our assistance and guidance,” she said. “We hope this will help facilitate their success going forward and provide them with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and talents. It can be hard on paper to make those connections, so by using our contact base, we are helping to enhance those opportunities.”
With participation open to all students, Krezek is excited to see the diverse range of organizations students wish to meet with.
“Within our CCEE team, we partner with a wide network of employers and community members, which allows us to make connections to established professionals,” she said. “The competition is just one more way we are helping students from all Faculties navigate their career journey and graduate ready to take the next steps in whatever industry they have set their sights on.”
Applications for Lunch with a Leader open Friday, Feb. 1 and close Thursday, Feb. 21.
Students interested in participating are encouraged to complete the application process on the CCEE website.
