Brock mourns passing of longtime professor

A Chemistry professor hired when Brock University was less than a year old has passed away.

Richard Hiatt, who taught organic chemistry at the University for more than three decades, died Jan. 15 at the age of 88.

After being hired as an associate professor of Chemistry on Aug. 1, 1965, Hiatt was promoted to full professor in 1969. He served two terms as chair of the department from 1972 to 1975 and again from 1988 to 1991. Hiatt also served roles on Brock Senate and in the Brock University Faculty Association.
