Brock University has adopted a new Freedom of Expression policy, to come into effect on Jan. 1, 2019.

Brock’s policy reaffirms the University’s long-standing commitment to the free and open exchange of ideas, civil debate and diverse points of view on its campus.

The policy was developed by the Presidential Advisory Committee on Speech, which invited input from across campus throughout its creation. The group was chaired by Senate Chair Scott Henderson and included faculty, staff and student representatives from the University community, as well as union observers.

The policy will add greater clarity around Brock’s commitment to freedom of expression, as well as the University’s position on interference with and restrictions on freedom of expression.

A website has been created to provide the University community with more information about freedom of expression and related resources available on campus, and to answer frequently asked questions.

More resources will be added in the future as training and guidance on the policy is developed.
