University looking for honorary degree nominations

Brock University is again ready to honour those in the community or within a particular discipline who deserves to be recognized for their exceptional work.

The Office of the University Secretariat is looking for worthy recipients to be considered for honorary degrees.

“In awarding honorary doctorates, Brock University has the opportunity to recognize those whose significant achievements and contributions to society have made a difference, whether here in Niagara, nationally or globally,” said Senate Chair Scott Henderson. “The award is a means of honouring leaders in their fields, while reinforcing for our graduates and alumni the University’s own values and ideals, evident in the achievements of each recipient.”

Honorary degrees are conferred at Spring and Fall Convocations, with the recipients delivering the Convocation address.

There’s no deadline for nominations, but they’re reviewed by the Governance Committee of Senate in early spring. The committee then makes recommendations on which nominees should be placed on a list of proposed honorary degree recipients to be selected by the President.

Nominations may be submitted using the form on the honorary degree section of the University Secretariat website. The site also contains the procedures and guidelines for submitting a name to be considered, including the requirement of having at least two statements of support.
