Brock community invited to International Open House

Brock International is welcoming the start of another academic year with a big celebration.

The annual Brock International Open House will take place Wednesday, Sept. 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the International Centre — and the entire University community is invited.

A welcome ceremony hosted by Brock University President Gervan Fearon and members of Brock’s senior administration will kick off the festivities outside the centre on the east end of Brock’s main campus.

During the ceremony, Fearon will introduce the 2018-19 International Student Ambassador Award recipients. This prestigious scholarship recognizes international students who exemplify the mission and vision of Brock, along with high academic achievements, and/or community engagement.

After the ceremony, a complimentary barbecue will be served for lunch, with an ice cream truck on hand for dessert. Attendees can enjoy a live performance by local musician Mel Monaco, participate in games and enter for raffle prizes including a $100 gift card to the Brock University Campus Store.

Guests will also have the chance to meet with international support staff through a vendor-style fair, and learn more about programs and opportunities offered by Brock International. This includes academic and language support, intercultural awareness programming, international mobility, international student advising, and social and cultural activities such as day trips to Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake, games on campus and holiday celebrations.

The International Centre is also home to the Confucius Institute and the Department of Classics. The Confucius Institute, which raises awareness of Chinese language, art and culture at Brock University, will be in attendance to showcase its work.

No registration is required, but faculty, staff and students are encouraged to arrive early as quantities for food will be limited. More information about the event can be found on ExperienceBU.
