A series of new awards has increased options for Brock University students and researchers looking to explore opportunities in Mexico.
In an effort to increase internationalization, the Mexican government has introduced a series of scholarships offered to Canadians, in addition to merit-based awards offered to international students from more than 180 countries around the world.
Canadian students and researchers interested in studying or conducting research in Mexico at the undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate level can apply for one of 27 available scholarships.
Applicants are eligible to apply to more than 70 Mexican institutions offering academic programs registered with the National Council for Science and Technology as National Quality Graduate Programs, including Brock’s current partner institution, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México.
Start dates for awarded applicants vary by institution and level of study, but range from March 1 to Dec. 8, 2019. Depending of the level of academic study, the length of study varies as well. Undergraduate and graduate scholarships last one term, while graduate-level research and postdoctoral fellowships last 12 months. Candidates seeking master’s degrees or doctoral programs range from two to four years.
The scholarships include airfare, domestic transportation, tuition fees, accommodation and tuition fees for a language course, living allowance and health insurance.
Application requirements vary by institution and program; however, the following is required for all applicants:
- A minimum 80 per cent academic average
- Acceptance into the desired Mexican institution and program in the application
- Certificate of an advanced level or proficiency in Spanish to ensure a minimum level of B2 (intermediate level), according to CEFR from a university or language centre
- All documents submitted in any language other than Spanish must be accompanied by a translation (does not need to be certified)
Additional details about the scholarship and in-depth requirements can be found here.
Applications must be submitted by Sept. 28 to be considered.
