Brock University is introducing a new sport to its list of recreational activities. Students will now be able to borrow cricket equipment through the Walker Sports Complex.
The new equipment, donated by Brock International Services, stems from the University’s commitment to internationalization and a barrier-free and inclusive environment.
“Introducing cricket will provide both domestic and international students with the opportunity to experience more from the globalized environment the University has created,” said Sandra Gruosso, Interim Associate Director of Brock International Services.
The equipment consists of everything needed to start a pick-up game on campus including two bats, balls, a wicket and protective equipment such as helmets and gloves.
For international student Sami Al Alawi, first-year Bachelor of Science student from Medina, Saudi Arabia, the addition of cricket equipment was welcome news.
“I like that Brock University is introducing more international sports on campus,” he said.
Borrowing the set of equipment will require students schedule both the use of the equipment and an available field a minimum of 24 hours in advance through the Welcome Desk. Smaller requests, such as just the cricket bat and ball, is permissible for on-the-spot requests as long as there is an available location to play.
A free clinic will be scheduled during the summer for all faculty, staff and students interested in learning more about how to play the sport.
