Brock launches employee workplace violence resources and training

New workplace violence resources and training are now available to Brock employees.

Launched earlier this month by Brock’s Health, Safety and Wellness Office, the Workplace Violence Prevention Program contains written standards that outline the roles and responsibilities of the University community as well as procedures to follow when workplace violence occurs at Brock.

Employees are asked to review and understand how this new program, as well as the existing Workplace Violence Prevention Policy, applies to them.

A component of the program includes mandatory online Workplace Violence Training for all Brock employees. The module is available on the Sakai Learning Management System under the Health and Safety heading. Employees are asked to set aside 30 minutes to complete the training as soon as possible.

Brock has also developed a Workplace Violence Assessment that will help identify areas susceptible to workplace violence risks. Members of the Senior Administrative Council will be responsible for having the assessment completed for their respective divisional areas.

If employees experience, witness or suspect workplace violence — including a threat or attempt at violence — they’re asked to report the circumstances immediately to their supervisor.

“We all play a critical role in fostering a respectful work and learning environment,” said Dan Pozzobon, Health and Safety Officer with Brock’s Health, Safety and Wellness Office in Human Resources. “All reports of workplace violence are considered a serious matter and will be thoroughly investigated.”
