Brock University officials and St. Catharines firefighters responded to a kitchen fire at about 2 a.m. Sunday, April 8 in a student residence unit in Village.

Nobody was injured in the incident. Two students in the unit were quickly evacuated from the brick structure and three adjacent residence units were also evacuated as a precaution.

Brock’s alarm system automatically alerted University staff and the St. Catharines Fire Department, which responded immediately.

The unit sustained considerable smoke and water damage so alternative arrangements are being made for impacted students.
