End-of-term reminders for students

With the end of exams approaching, Brock students both on and off campus are being encouraged to exercise good judgment when leaving their accommodations for the summer.

To accomplish this goal, Off-Campus Living and Neighbourhood Relations is providing some helpful tips and reminders as they assist students to transition to their summer plans.

Dispose of your unwanted items appropriately

Students are encouraged to redirect their unwanted items to community agencies, recycling facilities or for student reuse. For example, students can contact Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore to donate an appliance, Niagara Furniture Bank to pick up their bedroom set or Niagara Region for curbside pickup of large items and appliances not fit for donation.

Obey traffic rules on and off campus

All members of the Brock community are reminded to pay extra attention to their driving this spring. With adverse weather conditions and an increase in outdoor activities, vigilance behind the wheel is very important. Distracted driving and speeding fines apply whether on campus or not, and pedestrians have the right of way at all marked crossings.

Clean up your space

Students are also reminded to thoroughly clean up their indoor and outdoor living space before they leave for the summer. Failing to keep the land clear of garbage and domestic waste can result in a bylaw fine of $150.

Tanya Bradley, Brock’s Manager of Student and Community Experience, says students should think about positively impacting the community, even as they pack up to leave for the summer.

“As we transition to the spring and summer months, it’s important to remember that as members of the Niagara community we are responsible for doing what we can to be respectful to our neighbours,” she said.

Students or community members with questions or concerns about the above recommendations can email ocl@brocku.ca or call x3721.
