Brock mourns the death of Pat Sewell

The Brock community is mourning the loss of James Patrick ‘Pat’ Sewell, who died on Monday, Feb. 5.

A native of northern Texas, Sewell completed his BA and MA at North Texas State University before attending Columbia Teachers College and then enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He then went on to complete a PhD at the University of California Berkeley, which led to teaching positions at Yale and Princeton.

In 1974, Sewell joined Brock and spent 21 years as a Professor of Politics before retiring in 1995. During his tenure at the University, Sewell also served as Chair of the Department of Politics from 1981 to 1984.

A private gathering to celebrate Sewell’s life will take place in Plymouth, Vermont. Condolences will be received at passfieldmortuary@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, Sewell’s family ask that he be remembered through acts of kindness.
