Random Act of Kindness Day returns to campus Friday

The Brock community is being encouraged to end the week with an extra dose of kindness.

The University will be celebrating Random Act of Kindness Day with a variety of activities happening across campus Friday, Nov. 3.

Created by the Niagara Community Foundation as a way to recognize kindness and humanity in the region, the day encourages people to perform good deeds for one another.

Random Act of Kindness cards are available this week at the Student Life Involvement Commons in Mackenzie Chown A-Block 204 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Cardholders are encouraged to perform a simple act of kindness for someone — a neighbour, friend, co-worker or stranger — before handing the card over to them and asking them to pay that kindness forward.

“Random Act of Kindness Day is a wonderful opportunity for students, staff and faculty to go the extra mile for others and to do something kind for someone else either on campus or in the broader Niagara community,” said Kristen Smith, Brock’s Manager, Community Outreach Programs.

Some of the initiatives taking place include:

  • Senior administration giving out healthy snacks and Campus Cash for the Campus Store
  • Student volunteers raking leaves for seniors in the community
  • Captain Kindness performing good deeds on campus
  • Brock Student Alumni Association handing out hot chocolate and doughnuts
  • Faculty sharing RAK cards in their classes
  • Cardmaking stations set up around campus
  • Co-op, Career and Experiential Education collecting toiletries for the YWCA.

People are encouraged to use hashtag #rakday to share on social media stories of good deeds they have performed or been the recipient of.
