Brock extends outreach to Pen Centre

Community engagement is at the top of Brock’s holiday wish list.

In an effort to stay connected throughout the busy festive season, the University has opened a kiosk at the Pen Centre in St. Catharines.

The pop-up shop, found in front of the Coles bookstore, is one of several initiatives launched this year to highlight what Brock has to offer. The University also enhanced its community engagement in 2017 with a strong presence at a number of popular community events, including Pelham Summerfest, Rankin Cancer Run and Niagara Grape and Wine Festival.

The Pen Centre kiosk is filled with a variety of Brock merchandise, including hoodies and winter wear, as well as stocking stuffers such as mugs and holiday ornaments. It’s also a source for Brock information, with student ambassadors spreading the word about upcoming University events and handing out program brochures and recreation guides with details on swimming lessons and other on-campus activities.

“This initiative is all about bringing Brock into the community, about reaching out and saying ‘hi’ in a fun way,” said Brian Hutchings, Vice-President, Administration. “We have already had many shoppers stop by the kiosk and take the opportunity to share their favourite memories about Brock with our student ambassadors.”

With video screens highlighting different aspects of Badger life, the kiosk is meant to give visitors a taste of the unique Brock experience. It also acts as a reminder to alumni that they remain a pivotal part of the University community.

The branded kiosk will be open during mall hours seven days a week until Dec. 20.
