Safety drills planned as part of Fire Prevention Week

Brock will be putting the spotlight on safety next week as the University observes Fire Prevention Week on campus.

The theme for the national initiative, taking place Oct. 8 to 14, is Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out, which highlights the importance of being familiar with escape routes and emphasizes how precious time is during an emergency evacuation.

The University will be co-ordinating several fire drills on campus as part of Fire Prevention Week and to comply with the Ontario Fire Code.

The locations and times of the drills are being intentionally withheld.

During drills, the alarm system will be activated and Brock officials will observe the actions of occupants in order to compile drill reports.

Typically, members of the St. Catharines fire prevention division are also onsite to assess efficiencies and address any concerns during the drills.

All occupants are required to:

There’s no need to wait for a fire drill to become familiar with exit routes. It is a best practice and suggested that all departments and divisions across campus review their areas and walk exit routes a few times annually. This ensures everyone is familiar with routes and designated meeting points.

Emergency wardens are reminded that an emergency warden training module is available on Sakai. This module is also available to all active staff and faculty.

The safe and efficient evacuation from areas/buildings is critically important. Information on proper evacuation procedures is available on OneBrock and the Brock website.
