Brock International Services is ready to welcome 300 students from around the world with orientation activities and an open house being held over the next week.
Staff will be on campus Sunday, Sept. 3 to provide on-arrival assistance during Brock’s annual Move-in Day and the International Centre will be open from noon to 4 p.m. A shopping trip will also be organized to a Fourth Avenue plaza in St. Catharines from 2 to 4 p.m.
The following day, students seeking full degrees — at either the undergraduate or graduate level — will participate in an orientation program, with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m. in Sean O’Sullivan Theatre.
Visiting exchange and study abroad students from partner institutions around the world will also participate in orientation, learning how to maximize their time at Brock.
Students will learn about academic services, programs and resources, as well as Canadian classroom and academic expectations at university. They will also have opportunities to meet international and domestic students by participating in various activities held throughout the day and throughout Orientation Week.
Incoming students will be from more than 50 countries and will bring Brock’s international student population this year to nearly 2,000. New international students can still register for Monday’s orientation workshop here.
“We can’t wait to meet the newly arrived students,” said Sheila Young, Associate Director, Brock International Services. “We hope by attending our planned programming and events, students will make new connections and new friends, while learning how to make their transition to Brock and life in Canada a positive and successful experience.”
Brock faculty, staff and students are invited to an open house Brock International is throwing on the first day of classes.
Brock International, the Confucius Institute and the Department of Classics are combining to host the event on Wednesday, Sept. 6 in the International Centre. Doors open at 11 a.m. followed by an opening reception at noon in the building’s Global Commons.
The opening reception will also serve as an opportunity to announce the inaugural International Student Ambassador winners as well as the International Award for Possibilities recipients.
After the reception, there will be a free barbecue with live music, games and prizes, including a $100 gift card to the Campus Store.
