Fraud reports prompt warning from Campus Security

Brock Campus Security Services is warning students, staff and faculty to be cautious with their personal information after seeing an increase in reports of fraud schemes.

Security has received reports of fraudsters contacting students and others through e-mail or phone calls.

“Fraudsters go to great lengths to appear legitimate by misrepresenting themselves as reputable companies or government agencies to obtain personal information or sums of money through intimidation, threats or ‘advance fee/pay’ schemes,” said Campus Security Supervisor Catharine Pelletier.

Brock University will never send unsolicited e-mails asking for confidential information such as passwords or account details.

If you are suspicious of fraudulent activity, phone Campus Security at 905-688-5550 x3200 or Niagara Regional Police at 905-688-4111.
