As the academic year winds down, Brock University is encouraging students to donate their gently used household items before moving out of off-campus housing.

More than 120 businesses and organizations across Niagara are collecting donations of furniture, appliances, electronics, books and clothing, as part of Niagara Region’s waste management initiatives.

Brock’s Student Life and Community Experience department is taking a proactive approach to reducing waste in high student-density areas by working closely with the Region.

Last month, the department hosted a Swap n’ Drop clothing event for staff and students to donate used clothing and accessories. The Brock community was encouraged to exchange their donations for new items dropped off by their peers. Remaining items were donated to various Niagara organizations.

Student Life will be launching a social media campaign next week, providing tips and information on how and where students can donate their items as they begin to transition out of off-campus housing for the summer.

Students moving out of Residence should ensure that rooms are clean and all personal belongings are removed prior to leaving. All furniture and items belonging to the Department of Residences must remain in the room.

Students are responsible for stolen, damaged or items that need repair and will be subjected to costs. More information about moving out of residence is available online.
