There’s an important relationship many people forget to celebrate on Valentine’s Day.
Student Life and Community Experience (SLCE) will be offering a reminder on Tuesday that nothing is more important than the love you have for yourself.
“I think a lot of us believe Valentine’s Day is only for people who have a special someone to celebrate with,” said Kyra Boyce, a SLCE student staff member.
“We want to turn V-Day into U-Day.”
Boyce, along with her fellow student staff members Ali McDermid and Layton Risto are hosting two campaigns that flip the script on conventional love day practices.
The Love Yourself campaign is happening Tuesday in Union Station, with passersby invited to write messages of what they love about themselves, about their friends and about the University.
A sexual violence awareness campaign will also be happening throughout the day, with Student Life team members handing out lollipops and Valentine’s cards with messages about consent.
“It’s a fun and relatable way to talk about a sensitive but important issue,” Risto said.
No matter what day it is or how you celebrate, Boyce hopes to remind the Brock community that “love comes in all shapes and forms, and people deserve to share that love with themselves.”
