In a matter of hours Thursday, the steel structure of the expanded Goodman School of Business rose up from the ground.
Construction crews quickly assembled the first section of steel beams on the northwest section of the $22-million project that will see Taro Hall undergo a major expansion and renovation.
The past four and a half months have been a flurry of activity around the construction site, which includes the areas to both the east and west of the existing Taro Hall.
Construction on the project started in September, with crews first working to build a construction prep site between Taro Hall and the Student Alumni Centre.
The remainder of 2016 saw the demolition of the east staircase and foundations being poured to begin the process of building a new extension that will have six classrooms of high-tech teaching space, as well as six large washrooms.
Foundation was also poured on the area to the west side of Taro Hall to make way for the two-storey glass ‘engagement atrium’ at the west end of the complex. Serving as both a work/meeting space for students, and a venue for Goodman events or presentations, the atrium will be a striking foyer looking out on the iconic sculpture of Maj.-Gen. Sir Isaac Brock.
The video below shows a time lapse of construction activity throughout 2016:
