‘Tis the season: Get the flu shot before the flu gets you

Flu season is here, and the office of Health, Safety and Wellness (HSW) is reminding the Brock community to get their free flu shots at one of the public vaccination sites in Niagara. To see a list of locations in your area, click here.

Influenza thrives in the cold, dry air of winter, and spending more time indoors means we increase the likelihood of contact with those who are infectious.

To help promote vaccinations and good practices this year, HSW has given placements to fourth-year nursing students Janelle MacPherson and Jake Oskam, who have been creating a new Brock flu awareness program. Their posters will soon be appearing across campus, alerting people to the importance of flu shots and preventive measures.

An influenza video is also available on Brock’s website, as is a video developed especially for Custodial Services, to reinforce effective sanitation techniques to stop the spread of the flu in high-touch areas.

While the poster and videos raise awareness, the decision to get a flu shot is up to each individual. Consultation with your health professional, a walk-in clinic or your local pharmacist is recommended.

Educate yourself, family and friends on how to stay healthy this flu season — and don’t let the flu bug you!
