Blog this: Grad Studies keeps moving to stay connected

Brock’s Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) has unveiled a new blog to keep the lines of communication open with students here on campus and Grad students around the world.

GradScope made its debut this week with an inaugural post staking out its mission to help bond past, present and future members of the graduate community through common communication.

Besides being a dialogue forum for Brock’s FGS community, the blog will also be a practical resource, for instance by providing tips to students striving to balance busy lives full of deadlines and commitments.

Jens Coorssen, Dean of the Faculty, said current grad students are always busy, and FGS grads tend to become accomplished, mobile professionals who can be difficult to stay in touch with. Brock is making the effort to remain relevant in their lives through a broader sense of community.

“It’s important for us to attract future students, connect with current students and stay in touch with our grads,” said Coorssen. “Communication is everything, and a good way to maintain the link is to engage people with great discussion and information that’s based on experience and is thus genuinely thoughtful and useful.”

Courtney Charette, the new Communications, Marketing & Recruitment Coordinator for FGS, said much of the blog’s content will start in her office, but guest posts will also be encouraged from faculty, staff and students to highlight various options and supports for graduate students.

“We want to engage current and future graduate students by sharing information about the services available to them, advice to help them succeed as well as information about the great research happening at the graduate level,” said Charette.
