Brock women’s basketball team joining Down syndrome parade

The sixth annual Down Syndrome Caring Parents Niagara walk is taking place Saturday as part of the Niagara Wine Festival’s Pied Piper Parade.

Known as the Go21 walk, it leaves from Montebello Park in St. Catharines Saturday at 11 a.m., and this year will include the Brock Badgers women’s basketball team and Boomer the Badger mascot.

This year’s walk launches a bigger, better, completely Canadian awareness event fully supported by the Canadian Down Syndrome Society (CDSS). Go21 Niagara, formerly Buddy Walk Niagara, is a community builder, fundraiser and awareness event all in one.

Go21 is all about positive momentum for people with Down syndrome and their families in Canada. 21 refers to the extra chromosomal material from the 21st chromosome that determines if a person has Down syndrome. The Down syndrome community identifies with 21 as a unique number that stands out.

Registration for the Go21 walk takes place at Montebello Park at 9 a.m. For more information, visit www.go21.ca
