This week on Conversations with Goodman, host Susan LeBlanc talks with business student Sean Bouwers.
Bouwers, set to graduate this summer, talks about his experience at Brock’s Goodman School of Business and how that has helped to set him up for a job upon graduating.
Bouwers actively participated in several business competitions throughout his time at Goodman and placed third at Queen’s University’s Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (I.C.B.C.) and fourth in debate at JDC Central this year.
He also took on leadership positions this past year with the Goodman Business Students’ Association as vice president finance and academic chair for the Goodman JDCC team.
As he reflects on the past four years, Bouwers explains that a pivotal moment in his program was when he participated in an international exchange at Maastricht University in The Netherlands. After making several international connections through this experience, he took it upon himself to learn Mandarin and study Chinese culture.
This led him to take part in a full immersion program in China last summer which was covered through a documentary-style show on CCTV’s Foreigners in China program.
As Bouwers now looks forward to convocation, he is also looking forward to returning to China after he crosses the stage where a job in finance awaits him. He credits his strong co-curricular involvement in the business program as the pathway that led him to this job offer where he will be working in finance.
As this partially stemmed from his international exchange experience, Bouwers encourages all students to participate in similar programs that broaden their horizons and open them up to a world of possibilities.
This podcast is the latest in the Conversations with Goodman series which is produced by the Goodman Marketing, Communications and Alumni Relations team and features guests from the Goodman community.
