A letter to the Brock community from University President Jack Lightstone
As announced a few weeks ago, a Human Rights Task Force is being set up to review the University’s human rights policies, processes, services and supports, and to make recommendations for advancing human rights at Brock. The task force will include representatives from staff, faculty, students and administration as well as external representation.
Today I am writing to invite nominations for the staff, student and faculty representatives. Candidates may nominate themselves or may nominate other staff, student or faculty representatives.
Nominations must include (1) a short paragraph outlining the nominee’s experience or interest in human rights issues and concerns; and (2) confirmation that the nominee is willing to serve if appointed. Nominations must be emailed to ccolebatch@brocku.ca by 4:30 pm on Wednesday May 18.
Nominations will be reviewed by the President, with a view to ensuring the task force includes engaged, informed individuals. Nominations are encouraged from individuals from equity seeking communities, including communities that are underrepresented because of race, ethnicity, disability, culture, language and religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age and persons of indigenous descent.
Individuals will be selected based on their experience with and commitment to human rights, as well as the diverse perspectives and experiences they can contribute.
I appreciate the deep interest and engagement the University community has shown on this important issue. The task force has a mandate to consult broadly with the Brock community, so everyone’s participation is critical.
Once the task force is established, it will provide further details on how it will engage with the University community.
If you have any questions about the task force or this process, please contact the University Secretary at ccolebatch@brocku.ca.
Sincerely,
Jack Lightstone, President and Vice-Chancellor
