Brock University is launching a major reorganization of key student services in order to streamline and enhance capacity for student success.
This spring, two existing service centres — Student Health Services, and the Student Development Centre — will be reorganized into two new administrative units, providing greater integration of student services.
The Student Success Centre will be the home of Learning Skills Services, central Academic Advising (currently in the Registrar’s Office) and Aboriginal Academic Supports. These resources will focus on helping students achieve academic success through advising and academic support.
The second new unit will incorporate student health services, personal counselling and accessibility services. This new Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre will function as a “one-stop” destination for students seeking health, wellness and accommodation services.
Both of these newly configured student services centres will report to the Vice-Provost, Teaching, Learning and Student Success.
Neil McCartney, Brock’s Provost and Vice-President Academic, said last year’s departure of former Vice-Provost Kim Meade provided the opportunity to review and reorganize student support services.
“We have been able to more effectively concentrate and integrate student support services,” said McCartney.
Anna Lathrop, Vice-Provost for Teaching, Learning and Student Success, said creating a fully integrated model for related services will better serve students.
“There are natural alignments between Student Success and Student Wellness and Accessibility,” said Lathrop. “Each contributes an essential support network that should be integrated and interdependent.”
