This week’s Conversations with Goodman podcast, host Susan LeBlanc sits in with Goodman graduate Nick Chrzan (BBA ’12).
Chrzan, who was on campus for the third time to speak in Prof. Eric Dolansky’s marketing class, talks about his involvement in student clubs as an important step in helping him launch his career in business.
While completing the BBA program, Chrzan was part of the Brock Marketing Association and Brock Finance and Investment Group as well as Goodman DECA, where he was president for a year. These experiences, in addition to his case competition experience through DECA and JDC Central, all worked together to help him in his job search.
After graduating, Chrzan worked at Loblaw Companies Limited in their grad@loblaw program before moving to his current role as assistant product manager at Shoppers Drug Mart where he manages commercialization processes to bring new products to consumers.
He credits landing his first job at Loblaw to both his involvement in extracurricular activities and his participation at Goodman’s Distinguished Leader event in 2010. That year, Loblaw executive chairman and president Galen Weston was honoured as the Goodman Distinguished Leader, and Chrzan had the opportunity to attend both his public lecture and to interact with him at a more exclusive hour in advance, an opportunity given to a select number of Goodman student leaders. This later proved to be a defining moment of Chrzan’s academic career at Brock, as he was able to speak at length in his Loblaw interview about lessons he learned from Weston.
Chrzan’s advice for students is to get involved as much as possible because it can “pay dividends later on.”
As an alumnus, Chrzan continues to be involved with the University and is part of Brock University Alumni Association’s Toronto chapter and the Goodman Alumni Network.
