Forty-six future students and their parents got the full Goodman School of Business experience at an exclusive event held during Brock University’s Open House on March 6.
A select group of Goodman applicants were invited to the event. Students traveled to Brock from all over Ontario and arrived on campus hours before Spring Open House to have the opportunity to connect with students and alumni of their respective programs.
Brock has a strong sense of community and lots of school spirit.
Organized by the Goodman Student Ambassador Association (SAA) and supported by the Goodman School of Business Student Engagement Office, the event featured a mock lecture and business simulation delivered by Goodman faculty members and student and alumni panels who spoke about their experiences at Goodman, while parents heard from various departments about Brock’s services and resources.
Thaniya Jeyachandra has had the full A-Team experience now, having attended as both a future and current student. Last year, she visited Brock for A-Team with her family from Hamilton, which resulted in her accepting Brock’s offer for the Bachelor of Business Administration International Dual Degree program, a unique program that caught her attention.
Her impression at that time was that Brock was a place she could excel.
“Brock has a strong sense of community and lots of school spirit,” she says.
A-Team was definitely one of the reasons I chose Brock and it really helped to solidify my choice.
After studying here for nearly a full academic year, that impression has remained unchanged.
The first-year student, who is involved with several on-campus organizations including Brock Marketing Association, Brock Leaders Citizenship Society, Living Learning Community and Mentorship Plus, says that as a future student, the chance to attend A-Team and get to know Goodman before the larger Open House event was invaluable.
“I specifically remember hearing from current students last year at A-Team and now I have had the chance to get to know them personally,” she says.
“A-Team was definitely one of the reasons I chose Brock and it really helped to solidify my choice.”
As she has been mentored this year, Jeyachandra has also realized the importance of giving back to students whose shoes she once filled. She already plans to transition from mentored to mentor next year so that she can help a first-year student.
At the event, Jeyachandra spoke to a large group of future students and parents and shared her experience with them. She encouraged them to get involved on campus and to take advantage of Brock’s support system to make the most of their university experience.
Barry Wright, Goodman School of Business Interim Dean, also spoke at A-Team and remarked that the high level of engagement is indicative of the quality of applicants that Brock attracts.
“This is an exciting time for the Goodman School of Business and we hope that you will join us on our journey,” he said.
