It’s business case competition season and Brock University’s Goodman School of Business has been represented very well this month on international, provincial and regional levels.

Two teams of two made it to the final round of the prestigious Inter-Collegiate Business Competition, held Jan. 14-16 at Queen’s University. Sean Bouwers and Bryan Dizon competed in the finance category and placed third overall.

Three students traveled Jan. 11-15 to Burlington, Vt. to compete at the Global Family Enterprise Case Competition held at University of Vermont’s Grossman School of Business. The team of Ashley Howard, Deeksha Sharma and James Fioretti placed first in its division and represented Goodman in the final round.

DECA U Ontario held its annual provincial competition in Toronto Jan. 15-17, and 50 Goodman students competed and represented the Goodman School of Business through a series of written tests, business case simulations and networking sessions. Steven Simons and Robert Mandru competed as a team in the international marketing category and won third place overall, BBA student Ashwin Anant was awarded third place overall for the written exam in finance, BBA student and Goodman DECA President Nick Hollard won first place for the business simulation role play in travel and tourism, and Zaman Dubey and Yvonne Huynh competed as a team in the Case Boss challenge and took first place overall.

On the weekend of Jan. 22-23, Sabrina Jancsi, Jennifer Philpott, Charlotte Lucas and Neal Sengupta competed as a team at the Organizational Behaviour Case Competition held at Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management and placed second overall.

Each of these competitions test students’ analytical and presentation skills as well as their ability to think quickly and deliver sound recommendations before a judging panel of business professionals.

“These co-curricular achievements are amazing and demonstrate the great effort that our students put into learning from faculty coaches, coaching their peers and representing the Goodman School of Business in a professional manner,” says Najlaa Rauf, student engagement co-ordinator.

Last month, 47 Goodman students won several awards at JDC Central. Upcoming case competitions include the Royal Roads University International Undergraduate Case Competition and internal competitions such as Monster Pitch and HR 101.
