The Brock University community will celebrate alumnus David MacKenzie (BA ’74) during a private reception to name the Green Room in the new Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
A fundraising initiative, spearheaded by MacKenzie’s former classmate and longtime friend Dan Livermore (BA ’69), made the naming of the Green Room possible. The reception will serve as a thank you to the many generous donors, comprised of his friends and family, who contributed to the initiative.
“Green Room” is the name traditionally given to a place where performers can rest and prepare before a production. With this naming, Brock Drama’s past is forever linked to its future. This mirrors the way the past and future are linked architecturally in the structure of the downtown building.
“We are so thankful for the gifts contributed in honour of Dave and his dedication to Brock. His positive impact on the Brock community will forever be remembered by this designation,” said Pamela Shanks, Executive Director, Development & Alumni Relations.
MacKenzie has maintained a close relationship with Brock including serving as a board and committee member, participating in theatre productions, designing the official Brock University Alumni Tartan, and contributing to the classics and archaeology departments. He has also donated to several areas within the University and encouraged others to do the same. He is known for his common sense, community spirit and dedication to advancing the cultural and intellectual life of the Niagara Peninsula.
