Basketball rivalry hits the courts for a good cause

The Brock University men’s and women’s basketball teams will host the Niagara College Knights Saturday in the annual Peninsula Hoops Classic at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.

The women tip-off at 3 p.m. and the men hit the court at 5 p.m.

Proceeds from the games support The United Way.

The games are part of the sixth annual Peninsula Hoops Classic, which brings the region’s two post-secondary institutions together to benefit a key community organization.

“Brock University and Niagara College continue to be community leaders in Niagara Region and this special sporting event for United Way gives us the opportunity to give back and also promote our talented student athletes to the basketball community,” said Brock University interim Director of Athletics and Recreation Rob Cargnelli.

Niagara College Director of Athletics Matthew Davies said the exhibition event is a proud tradition.

“The event raises money and awareness for a fantastic cause, and with our partners from Brock University, showcases the fantastic post-secondary basketball talent that exists within the Niagara Region,” he said.
