David Siegel, a well-known political scientist at Brock University who specializes in public policy and administration, has agreed to serve as Brock’s Interim Dean of the Faculty of Education after the incumbent, Fiona Blaikie, completes her term later this year.

The announcement was made by University Provost Neil McCartney, who said Siegel will serve a two-year term starting July 1, 2015.

“The landscape has been shifting dramatically,” said McCartney. “There are big changes for education faculties throughout the province, and Brock is very pleased to have David help guide the team at this time.”

Siegel served as dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2002 to 2008 and Associate Vice-President Academic from 1995 to 1999. A researcher and consultant who is frequently sought out by journalists for interviews and articles, Siegel has written extensively about public administration in academic and mainstream media publications. Besides having taught at Brock since 1978, his significant roles at the University included serving as founding director of the Niagara Community Observatory, and leader of the working group for the Presidential Program Review.

“I’m looking forward to working with all of the people in the Faculty,” said Siegel, “and helping to continue moving the Faculty forward.”

Siegel will take a leave of absence from his own teaching duties during his term as Interim Dean of Education.

A search process for the next Dean of the Faculty of Education will commence in accordance with the Faculty Handbook. More details will be announced as they become confirmed.
