Managing and coaching professional hockey teams isn’t just about X’s and O’s anymore.
Over the past year, the Toronto Maple Leafs have developed their use of data-capture technology, which is then used to make on-ice decisions. Through a partnership with SAS Canada, Maple Leafs Assistant General Manager Kyle Dubas and SAS Analytical Solutions Lead Tim Trussell, both Brock University graduates, have worked together to integrate SAS technology into advanced statistics used to make performance-related changes.
The two, along with fellow Brock alumnus David Baldini, Global Partnerships Coordinator, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, will be part of a panel discussion taking place Monday, March 30 during Brock University’s Sport Management program Alumni Day events. The discussion will take place at 2:30 p.m. in Market Hall.
Alumni from the prominent Sport Management program will return to the University to network and share industry trends with Brock students throughout the day Monday.
Alumni Day will also feature sessions examining the role of women in the sport industry, organizational behaviour, marketing strategies and analysis, facility management, and careers outside the sport industry.
“With 30 alumni representing a broad spectrum of organizations, positions and industry sectors, we intend to continue the tradition of alumni speaking to diverse topics,” says Kirsty Spence, Sport Management Associate Professor and liaison committee member for the alumni day event.
“For the first-time, we will have a panel to highlight careers in non-sport organizations given the significant number of alumni doing amazing things in contexts that extend beyond sport,” Spence says.
The event will be followed by a grad send-off and the presentation of the Outstanding Young Alumni award to Kyle Dubas.
