Close to 3,700 students will graduate this week at Brock’s 2014 Spring Convocation, which takes place over nine ceremonies from Tuesday, June 3, to Saturday, June 7.
All ceremonies will be held in the Walker Complex in the Ian D. Beddis gymnasium. An outdoor reception for graduates, family members and guests will be held after each ceremony. Tickets are not required. All guests are welcome.
Ceremonies will also be video streamed live at livestream.com/brockuniversity
The nine ceremonies will proceed as follows:
Tuesday, June 3, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Humanities
• An honorary degree will be presented to Ron Sexsmith, the Canadian singer-songwriter who hails from St. Catharines. He will also address the graduating class.
• Professor Barbara Seeber, Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Humanities, will be presented with the 2014 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
• Humanities Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winners: Olivia Grace Meriano (undergraduate) and Shaunna Hubert (graduate)
• Humanities Dean’s Medals: Miriam Grace Brouwer (Honours) and Ruchama Jedida Lelie (Pass)
Wednesday, June 4, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Education (includes Hamilton Campus)
• Professor Kari-Lynn Winters, Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education, will be presented with the 2014 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, and will address Convocation
• Education Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winner: Brittany Rea (undergraduate)
• Applied Health Sciences Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winner: Andrew Edward Anthony Male (undergraduate)

• An honorary degree will be presented to Sir Hilary Beckles, professor and Pro-Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of the West Indies. He will also address the graduating class.
• Professor Fran Owen, Department of Child and Youth Studies/Applied Disability Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, will be presented with the 2014 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching

• Professor Joffre Mercier, Department of Biological Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Science, will be presented with the 2014 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, and will deliver the Convocation address
• Yin Xu, an MSc student in mathematics and statistics, will be presented with the Governor General’s Gold Medal, awarded to the student who achieves the highest academic standing at the graduate level
