A visiting professor from Turkey will be at Brock University Sunday, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m. to deliver a public lecture on the discoveries that have emerged from an archaeological dig at the ancient Mediterranean seaport of Kinet Hoyuk, near the present-day Turkish community of Iskenderun.
Marie-Henriette Gates, a professor of archaeology at Bilkent University, will present an overview of the project that has involved more than 20 years of excavations.
Kinet has been identified with the ancient town of Issos, which overlooked the plain where Alexander the Great defeated the Persians in 333 BC.
The free lecture, which is open to the public, takes place in Academic South, Room 215.
