With just weeks until Brock’s 50th anniversary year, people across the University are urged to make sure that 2014 events in their Faculty, department or unit are captured in the anniversary roundup calendar.
Brock’s golden year will be punctuated by numerous events exclusive to the anniversary, such as a major alumni homecoming weekend, the unveiling of a new statue of Sir Isaac Brock and a 50th anniversary salute when Brock hosts Canada’s largest annual gathering of scholars, the Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences.
But a big emphasis for the 50th is also to make sure that all scheduled or annual functions – from lectures and athletics events to symposia, concerts and receptions – are on the anniversary calendar and part of the fabric of the milestone celebrations.
All members of the Brock community – alumni, faculty, staff, students, Brock retirees and friends of the University – can fill out the “Expression of Interest” form on the Brock 50th website, which has already been receiving submissions for several weeks.
The calendar will be posted on the 50th anniversary website at the start of the new year, and will be updated on an ongoing basis.
“All of these important things we do in the course of a year are what defines the University,” said President Jack Lightstone, “and 50 remarkable years of our University is what we’re celebrating.”
