Author, politician and Canadian hockey icon Ken Dryden will stop by Brock University this week to share his thoughts on the future of Canada as part of the 27th annual Two Days of Canada conference.

His talk, “Making the Future: Canada in 2017 and Beyond,” takes place Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. in Pond Inlet.

This event is free and open to the public.

Dryden is a best-selling author who has penned six books. His Canadian classic, The Game, was nominated for the Governor General’s Award in 1983. For four years, he also served as a Member of Parliament, which included a run as Minister of Social Development between 2004 and 2006.

In addition to his political contributions and literary accomplishments, Dryden is widely regarded as one of the greatest goaltenders in the history of hockey.

In the 70s he was the backbone of a Montreal Canadiens dynasty that won six Stanley Cup Championships with Dryden earning many individual honours along the way. He also backstopped Team Canada to victory in the legendary 1972 Summit Series against the Soviet Union.

In 1983 he was awarded hockey’s highest honour when he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Dryden’s talk is part of this year’s Two Days of Canada conference, the oldest Canadian Studies conference of its kind in Canada, happening at Brock Nov. 7 and 8.

This year’s symposium, titled, “Educating [in] Canada: Inequalities, Controversies, Debates, Possibilities,” will feature presentations and panel discussions by scholars and graduate students from varying disciplines who study and research aspects of contemporary Canadian education.
