New CPI director named

Jill Grose

Jill Grose has been named director of the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation. She takes over from Barry Joe, who finished his three-year term as the centre's director earlier this week.

Jill Grose has been named director of the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation (CPI).

Grose takes over from Barry Joe, who served as director for three years.

Formerly the centre’s associate director, Grose brings more than 14 years of educational leadership to the position. As the associate director, she contributed to numerous initiatives, including the design and development of Brock University’s first graduate course in the theory and practice of university teaching, and the development of the basic and advanced TA certifications.

Grose also introduced a number of new teaching awards for sessional instructors, early career faculty, teaching in large classes, and a graduate TA award.

She has been an invaluable resource to departmental chairs, and faculty and teaching assistants as an instructional developer, offering expertise in curriculum development, learning outcomes and course design.

Most notably, Grose is an active contributor in the provincial and national Instructional Skills Network and introduced the first provincial Instructional Skills Workshop at Brock. She is also active internationally as an ISW facilitator.

In recognition of her outstanding service, Grose received the Brock University Human Resources Award for Distinguished Leadership in 2012.

“I can think of no one better suited to lead the CPI as we enter this next phase of educational innovation at Brock University,” said Anna Lathrop, Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning.

“Jill has earned the admiration and respect of every sector of the University and I am very pleased that she has accepted this responsibility, as we look to expand the impact of teaching and learning excellence on campus, and ensure that student-centred learning remains a hallmark of the Brock University experience.”

Grose started her term July 8.
