While all unionized elevator mechanics in Ontario walked off the job May 1, 2013 due to labour action, there is currently no disruption to any elevator services at Brock University.
Facilities Management has initiated a contingency plan to ensure that Brock’s 35 elevating devices continue to function reliably and safely throughout the duration of the dispute.
The University’s contract elevator maintenance provider employs elevator mechanics represented by the striking International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Local 90.
Elevators must be inspected and maintained on a monthly basis and Brock’s inspections are currently up to date for the month of May. All cars, lifts and dumbwaiters are currently in operation and have been maintained and inspected as per Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) requirements.
Facilities Management will continue to send updates and post notices about elevator outages around campus to its website. Person’s requiring assistance in the event an elevator is out of service should contact Campus Security by calling x3200 or x4300. The University’s response to an elevator entrapment does not change and all entrapments will be responded to accordingly by calling Campus Security on the emergency phone in the elevator.
The Brock community’s patience is greatly appreciated during this disruption, which may result in longer than normal service and repair times.
