Parts of Brock to go dark this Saturday for Earth Hour

Parts of Brock University will go dark tomorrow (Saturday, March 23) from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. in support of Earth Hour.

Brock’s most visible contributions to the annual worldwide event includes turning off all lights in parking lots T, U and V, as well as the lights on the main entrance sign.

These activities will be co-ordinated by Facilities Management, Parking Services and Campus Security Services. Staff, faculty and students are also being invited to help out by switching off all unnecessary lighting within their areas during this time.

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) first launched Earth Hour in Australia in 2007. The annual event uses the simple action of turning off non-essential lighting for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.

An enhanced Campus Security and Facilities Management presence at the University will be maintained to monitor those areas that have been darkened for Earth Hour.

Due to a number of activities taking place tomorrow evening at the main campus, all other parking lots, walkway and street lighting, as well as indoor public, common area and hallway lights will remain on for safety and security purposes.
