Rodman Hall hosts international poster exhibit about violence against women

The Coalition to End Violence Against Women and Rodman Hall Art Centre have partnered to present the Violence against Women 365 international poster exhibition.

The exhibition was created to highlight the global issue of violence against women. The concept behind the exhibition is simple: There are 365 days in the year but during every day of the year, every hour in the day, every minute of the hour and every second of the minute, somewhere in this world, women – regardless of race, colour or religion – are being subjected to violence, abuse, neglect or rape. This also includes children.

The posters in the exhibition come from more than 73 countries, each representing one day of the year. Each image reinforces that all forms of violence against women and children are unacceptable, no matter where one lives in the world.

Exhibition organizer Colm Dempsey will make a presentation on violence prevention on March 7 at 5:30 p.m. Dempsey has presented at international conferences and forums about violence against women and children in throughout the world.

The Coalition to End Violence Against Women is a collective of local organizations working toward ending violence against women by raising awareness, educating, sharing information, networking and identifying and breaking down systemic barriers that perpetuate violence.

The exhibit is open to the public and the coalition will host group tours. The Violence against Women 365 runs from Feb. 28 to March 7, at the Rodman Hall Art Centre, 109 St. Paul Cres.
