Security issue requires disabling of Java in Internet browsers

All Internet users are asked to disable the Java plug-in in their web browsers after a critical security vulnerability was discovered Thursday. The flaw affects all versions of Oracle’s Java 7 (version 1.7) up to update 10 on all operating systems.

Users of the Java JDK should remove Java 1.7 from their systems.

For Mac users:

Java runtime is not installed on Mac OS X 10.7.x and Mac OS X 10.8.x by default. If you have installed Java 7 on your computer and wish to remove it, please delete the file /Macintosh HD/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.7.0.jdk.
