Dozens of Brock staff and faculty were recognized Dec. 10 for the years of service and dedication on the job at the annual President’s holiday celebration and faculty and staff recognition.
Twenty-five people were honoured by President Jack Lightstone for having reached the 25-year milestone during the event at Pond Inlet. Two others were recognized for 35 years of service while three others were presented with distinguished service awards.
“I am grateful, as always, for all your hard work and contributions throughout this past term and throughout the year,” Lightstone told the dozens who gathered for the celebration.
Custodian Marian Jusko, described as dependable, affable and having a good rapport with students, staff and faculty was one of two people to receive the President’s Distinguished Service Award.
Distinguished service awards recognize permanent staff who consistently provide outstanding contributions to the work environment beyond the normal expectations.
“His ready smile and great attitude make even the gloomiest days look brighter and our morning hello provides a positive start to the day for me,” Lightstone read from the comments made about Jusko.
Linda Pidduck, a graduate administrative assistant in the Department of Psychology was the other recipient.
“Because she has a somewhat reserved interpersonal style, her commitment is not expressed in gushing enthusiasm, but in quiet daily actions, including difficult acts requiring moral courage,” Lightstone said.
Jill Grose, associate director at the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation, received the Human Resources Distinguished Service Award for Leadership.
“Her tremendous contribution to the University – and well beyond – is founded in her tenacious belief in the power of education, in the value of empowering others and in leading from behind,” Lightstone read about Grose.

25 or 35 years – something to be very proud of, congratulations!!
Mr. Marian Jusko is much deserving of the award! I was a student at Brock a couple of years ago, and during my fourth year research project, he always came in and cleaned up our lab in Mackenzie Chown.
Whenever myself or other lab mates encountered Marian he was extremely friendly and positive. He definitely had a great rapport with students, as described.
