Brock custodians and guests gathered in the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre lobby today to celebrate National Custodial Worker Day, which takes place every Oct. 2.

The event was co-ordinated by Custodial Services to recognize the more than 90 casual and full-time custodians who diligently work behind-the-scenes at the University every day.

“Its not an easy job that you do,” said Domenic Maniccia, director of custodial services at Brock. “And as soon as it’s done, you turn around and you notice our 18,000 students are walking in.

“Do they stamp their feet before they walk in during a snowstorm? Do they keep their hands off the glass? No they don’t,” he added. “So everyday you repeat the same tasks that you do and it is certainly appreciated.”

“This is also a way for the University to show its appreciation for all of the things that you do and you really make a difference,” said Tom Saint-Ivany, Interim Vice-President, Administration.

“You’re part of the facility management team,” said Saint-Ivany. “It takes custodians, it takes trades, it takes administrative and professional staff to be able to make Brock what it is, so thank you on National Custodian Day.”
