Guy Desjardins

The Brock community was saddened to learn that long-time employee Guy Desjardins passed away on Sept. 20, following a battle with cancer.

Faculty and staff throughout campus were familiar with Guy’s warm demeanor and easy smile. He had worked at Brock since 1982 and most recently held the position of Telecommunications Manager in IT Services.

In 2010, Guy became just the second recipient of Brock’s Distinguished Service Award for Leadership. Given to a candidate who has been nominated by peers, it recognizes employees for such qualities as working collaboratively with faculty and staff, and helping to build a respectful working and learning culture at the University.

When Guy was awarded the honour, President Jack Lightstone read out some of the comments from his nominators. They included “through his incredible work ethic and his ability to see the good in all things, the University is a better place” and “he is very humble … when you praise him, he will often deflect the credit to others on his team” and “he always has a smile on his face even in the worst of times” and “He interacts with everyone by displaying genuine interest in what they are saying, and replying with respect”.

Ed Blasinski. who worked with Guy for more than 30 years, said, “Guy always had the best interest of Brock, and his coworkers, on every project he worked on. His sense of humour and his optimism will be missed.”

Besides his role at Brock, Guy was also active in his community, including as a minor hockey coach.
