A Brock alumna has won the 2012 Norah Morgan Memorial Award for elementary school teachers who have made extraordinary contributions to local arts.

Nancy Gill, a graduate of the Visual Arts program, received the award this month. It was presented by Debra McLauchlan, Education professor at Brock and chair of the Carousel Players, established the award.

Gill is a teacher at Power Glen School. She has been a member of the Elementary Arts Council and Elementary Arts Showcase committee for more than six years, helping to develop curriculum and visual arts resources for teachers.

“I chose to become a teacher in my thirties and I went to Brock University and graduated with two degrees in five years,” said Gill, who cites Derek Knight and Warren Hartman as mentors. “I really enjoy incorporating all of the arts into my every day classroom, teaching my students new ways of looking at art and helping them to work to their potential.”
