More than 300 students, family members and student award donors filled the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre recently for the fourth annual Faculty of Mathematics and Science Student Awards Assembly.
The annual assembly, held this year on Nov. 30, celebrates the academic excellence of mathematics and science students. The evening recognizes all those named to the Dean’s Honour List. There were also 41 donor-funded scholarships and awards presented.
“On the Faculty web site, we have the statement ‘It’s your future, we’ll help you get there,'” Interim Dean Rick Cheel said at the event. “This reflects our fundamental belief that we do not create successful students. Our contribution to their success is by increasing the likelihood that they will excel at their work and studies by providing the best educational experience possible.”
In recognizing the donors who participated, he said “thank you all for your support and the way in which you have so positively impacted the lives of our students. Your generosity both encourages them in the pursuit of excellence and rewards them for their efforts. For this the students and the Faculty of Mathematics & Science are very grateful.”
The audience also welcomed Ejaz Ahmed, who will take over as Dean of the Faculty in January.
