There were a few more teenagers than usual on campus this week when Brock faculty and staff participated in Take Our Kids to Work Day.

Ninth graders joined their parents at work in departments such as Student Health Services and Facilities Management. About 30 youth participated in the Nov. 2 event.

Among them was Ross Horsley, who joined his mom Elizabeth, who is co-ordinator of the Learning Resource Centre in the Department of Nursing. The Sir Winston student also brought his friend, John Arseneau, from St. Francis.

The pair had an action-packed day that included learning to do chest compressions and sitting in on a second-year class discussing full cardiac arrests.

“I don’t want to be a nurse,” said Ross, 14, who has his sights set on being an economist. “But it turns out (his mom’s job) is a lot more interesting than I thought it was.”

Robbie McDonnell, a 14-year-old Holy Cross student, joined his dad Gary, who is assistant supervisor of electronics in Brock’s Technical Services. He was joined by friend Nick Campanella.

“It’s been great having them here, although students aren’t uncommon here,” Gary McDonnell said. “So far today, we’ve done some fun demonstrations.”

The students started the day at Market Hall, where they participated in activities and learned more about the University.
